What is a Safety Plan?

It is a personal plan to increase your safety and help you to prepare in advance if further violence occurs.

1. Are there two exits from your home? If not what would be a plan of escape?

2. Can you arrange a danger alert signal with friends or neighbors? Can they check on you?

3. Do you have people nearby to whom you may go to for help? Would they call the police if they sense danger or hear fighting?

4. Are your important papers in a safe place? (Social security card, birth certificates, credit cards, driver’s license, medical records, immunization records, marriage license, divorce papers, protective orders, etc.)

5. Do you have phone numbers available such as a CRISIS LINE?

6. Do you have a support system: family, friends, attend a support group, other?
